In their study, Omara et al. (2025) examined the early treatment of thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK) in children with achondroplasia. They found that TLK, when combined with the already narrow spinal canal characteristic of achondroplasia, significantly increases the risk of symptomatic spinal stenosis. Despite this risk, the study highlighted a lack of agreement on the best approach to manage TLK in these patients.
The research underscores the importance of early evaluation and intervention for children with achondroplasia to address TLK. However, due to the absence of a standardized treatment protocol, the study suggests a need for further research to establish evidence-based guidelines to optimize care for these children and reduce the risk of complications such as spinal stenosis.
